The MSH Project seeks to document and archive images, files, and other media associated with the former Mendocino State Hospital located near Ukiah, California, and operated by the State of California from 1893 to 1972. The purpose of the Project is to give people a better understanding of this central institution that anchored the eastern part of the Ukiah Valley for decades, while giving a voice to the thousands of people who were incarcerated there or who were employed there.

The former site of MSH is today the campus of The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, a Buddhist community.

This website is still under construction — there’s already plenty to explore, but be sure to check back soon for more!
